Great writing in any genre—fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, hybrid—sparks our imagination and invites us into the world of the story. In this workshop we will focus on structure, style, and tone to develop your unique identity as a writer. Your unique voice, vision, and human presence in your writing create the humanity and inspiration of human-to-human connection; this is what separates your work from AI-generated writing and makes your writing special. We will open each session with a short meditation, then study an aspect of literary craft and discuss a literary mentor text, followed by a generative writing exercise and time for sharing and supportive feedback, focusing on noticing the strengths in our writing and opening a wide range of possibilities from there. The last two workshop sessions will be devoted to individual conferencing and supportive feedback. This literary workshop operates as a cohort and is free for all selected participants. Apply by October 30 for consideration.

Impactful literature inspires deep reflection and insight, and it makes us want to dialogue with others, whether they have read the piece or not. This cohort series explores the "nuts and bolts" of developing such impactful literary works. We will open each session with a short meditation, then reader response feedback and dialogue inspired by our work, followed by a short craft lesson inspired by a mentor text and/or our own work, focusing on noticing how choices in content and craft inspire profound reflection, conversation, and connection. Each session will end with a writing prompt or feedback prompt that can be applied to our writing or reading outside of the session. This literary workshop operates as a cohort and is free for all selected participants. Participants who complete Writers Cohort Series 1 are eligible to participate in the Series 2. Other applicants will be considered on a case-by-base basis.

Get started writing your book with techniques and guidance to help you craft and revise opening pages that captivate readers from the very first paragraph. You'll learn how to begin in motion, establish mood and atmosphere, introduce compelling questions, and reveal the desires and fears that drive your characters. We'll explore how to create intrigue without overwhelming readers with exposition, holding back backstory until it deepens rather than delays engagement. Whether you're writing literary fiction, memoir, or narrative nonfiction, you'll leave with practical strategies for transforming your first twenty-five pages into an irresistible invitation to keep reading.
