What does health and healing look like in each of our lives? What should we reasonably expect from a modern healthcare system? How can our literary practice help us process our experiences with healthcare and healing? In this workshop we will generate our own writing inspired by literary techniques in fiction, poetry, and nonfiction from several authors including William Carlos Williams, Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, Fady Joudah, Dave Newman, Kay Ulanday Barrett, and Atul Gawande.

These 8-week writing workshops are free, and the cohort experience gives us the chance to develop camaraderie and growth in our literary practice. Thus, we ask that participants plan to attend all 8 sessions, if possible. Apply by January 15 for the Spring 2026 Writing Cohort and tell us about yourself and your work.

Great writing in any genre—fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, hybrid—sparks our imagination and invites us into the world of the story. In this workshop we will focus on structure, style, and tone to develop your unique identity as a writer. Your unique voice, vision, and human presence in your writing create the humanity and inspiration of human-to-human connection; this is what separates your work from AI-generated writing and makes your writing special. We will open each session with a short meditation, then study an aspect of literary craft and discuss a literary mentor text, followed by a generative writing exercise and time for sharing and supportive feedback, focusing on noticing the strengths in our writing and opening a wide range of possibilities from there. The last two workshop sessions will be devoted to individual conferencing and supportive feedback. This literary workshop operates as a cohort and is free for all selected participants. Apply by January 15 for consideration.
