Happy Thursday humans! Here is this week's literary inspiration for being human...
I recently purchased several books that sat on my "to be read" list for nearly a year. Money is tight and I try to be judicious with spending, but after two other books sparked my imagination (see "Role Models for Freedom"), I was reminded of just how liberating reading can be, and I gifted myself the luxury of books that make me feel curious, creative, and alive.
What books would you include in your "liberation library," your library for inspiration and self-empowerment?
"The first time I went to the store next door, If
Books Could Kill, I asked where to find
the best sellers. The midlde-aged man behind the counter grunted,
Books or guns? Novels, I said. He pointed
to the bookshelves in the back corner, past the semi-automatic
bestsellers featured on the center
display."

What is "on sale" in your community, culture, or environment? What objects or habits are competing for your attention? What do you have to say "no" to in order to say "yes" to reading?
The band Ezra Collective has a new album coming out this September called Here Because of Hope. I featured them previously (see "Victory Dance" Lit Chat), and their new song "Only Love" makes me think of how love songs are not limited to the expression of romantic love, but can also express love for humanity.
If we expand the types of love human beings practice, what other songs celebrate love in its various forms? What would be on your playlist of love songs?

In Woman Outside the City, a glitch in the global information system causes people to instantly lose or gain everything. Beginning with veteran Sequoia, whose switch from valid to invalid thrusts her into poverty and homelessness, three women struggle with this massive shift in their lives, challenging systemic assumptions about class, age, gender, and migration along the way.
